About Champion Power Equipment

Champion Power Equipment has designed and sold generators since 2003 out of Santa Fe Springs, California, where the company remains headquartered today. Its engineering and R&D team works out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with additional facilities in Jackson, Tennessee and Toronto, Canada. The line has grown well beyond generators into log splitters, chipper shredders, cultivators, pressure washers, water pumps, and winches, but portable and home standby generators remain the core of the business, and the brand was an early mover in bringing dual-fuel (gasoline-and-propane) technology to portable models.

Consumer Reports has independently tested Champion's home standby generators and rated them Excellent for both power delivery and power quality in its outage-preparedness testing. Champion also builds its CO Shield carbon monoxide auto-shutoff system into its generator lineup, a safety feature that automatically kills the engine when CO levels build up dangerously near the unit. That combination of independently verified power quality and a standard carbon-monoxide safeguard is why we look closely at Champion whenever we test generators for home backup.

Champion 4000W Inverter Generator
Top Pick 2026

Champion 4000W Inverter Generator

At under 49 lbs, this is the lightest 4000-watt inverter generator we tested, and it still delivers 3,000 running watts of clean power under 3 percent THD, safe for laptops, phones and other sensitive electronics. The CO Shield automatic carbon monoxide shutoff is a genuine safety feature rather than a checkbox spec, and the parallel-ready design lets an owner add a second unit later to double output instead of buying a heavier generator outright.
