About Mechanix Wear
Mechanix Wear got its start in 1991, when founder Jim Hale designed a glove built to survive hot engine bays without costing a mechanic the tactile feel needed to turn a wrench. That first glove, The Original, debuted at the 1991 Daytona 500 on Richard Childress Racing's pit crew. Three decades later, the Valencia, California-based company has expanded well past motorsports into construction, automotive, industrial, tactical, and law-enforcement hand protection, with products now sold in more than 70 countries through over 20,000 distributor locations.
The brand's motorsports roots are still visible in its sponsorships: Mechanix Wear has backed NASCAR's year-end Most Valuable Pit Crew award since 2002, and in 2020 it partnered with DuPont Personal Protection to develop new glove materials. On the safety side, its M-Pact line's molded knuckle guards are rated to the ANSI/ISEA 138 impact-protection standard rather than being decorative padding, and in our own testing across three of the brand's gloves, that combination of motorsports-derived fit and third-party-rated protection is what consistently sets its gloves apart from lower-cost alternatives.

Why we recognized Mechanix Wear
The DIYRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Mechanix Wear earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, put to work on real jobs, and judged on merit.
Mechanix Wear products we rated highly
Mechanix Wear Original Work Gloves
The synthetic leather palm gives enough dexterity to pick up a single drywall screw or thread a nut by feel, and the TrekDry backing breathes well enough to wear through a full summer day. It's touchscreen-capable at the thumb and index finger, machine washable, and in our testing it's the glove that nails the balance every general-purpose work glove is chasing.

Mechanix Wear M-Pact Work Gloves
Thermoplastic rubber knuckle and finger guards absorb the impact of a slipped hammer or a stud edge, and the molded palm padding cuts vibration on repetitive hammering and demo work. The guards are tested to the ANSI/ISEA 138 impact-protection standard rather than being decorative, and it keeps the same touchscreen capability and washability as the Original.

Mechanix Wear Pursuit D5 Cut Resistant Gloves
Combines ANSI A5 cut protection with the fit Mechanix is known for, and a synthetic leather palm over the cut liner adds abrasion resistance and grip that a bare knit cut glove can't match. It stays touchscreen-capable and locks in place with a hook-and-loop cuff for precision work like handling sheet metal ductwork.
