About Hoover
Hoover traces back to June 2, 1908, when James Murray Spangler, an asthmatic department-store janitor in New Berlin, Ohio (renamed North Canton in 1918), built a basic suction sweeper by mounting an electric fan motor and a soap box onto a broom handle. William H. Hoover backed the invention and built the company that carried his name into one of the most recognized names in floor care through most of the 20th century. Ownership changed hands more than once, from Chicago Pacific in 1985 to Maytag in 1989, before Hong Kong-based Techtronic Industries (TTI) acquired the Hoover brand in 2007 and folded it into TTI Floor Care North America, which today also owns Dirt Devil, Vax, and Oreck, headquartered in Glenwillow, Ohio.
The current Hoover lineup spans carpet and upholstery cleaners, upright and canister vacuums, the battery-powered ONEPWR cordless system, and hard-floor cleaning tools. The carpet cleaners we tested directly lean on SpinScrub counter-rotating brush technology and HeatForce heated drying to shorten same-day dry time, both backed by a 2-year limited warranty. The PowerScrub Deluxe and PowerDash Pet models we feature below have racked up a combined total well past 140,000 verified Amazon reviews at a 4.4-star average, with the PowerDash Pet's antimicrobial brush roll specifically engineered for households that store the machine damp between pet messes.

Why we recognized Hoover
The DIYRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Hoover earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, put to work on real jobs, and judged on merit.
Hoover products we rated highly
Hoover PowerScrub Deluxe FH50150
The best overall pick in our carpet cleaner testing: five counter-rotating SpinScrub brushes attack ground-in dirt from multiple angles instead of dragging a single roller across the fibers, and HeatForce technology speeds dry time so furniture can go back the same day. Gallon-sized clean and dirty water tanks handle a full room without refill trips, and a hose with upholstery and stair tools reaches stairs, sofas, and car interiors an upright alone can't. Backed by a 2-year limited warranty and more than 58,000 verified reviews at a 4.4-star average.

Hoover PowerDash Pet FH50700
One of our top picks for smaller spaces and pet households: at 12.5 pounds it's the lightest upright in our carpet cleaner roundup, genuinely manageable on stairs and compact enough to fit an apartment closet. HeatForce drying shortens the wet-carpet window, and an antimicrobial PowerSpin Pet brush roll resists mold growth between uses when the machine gets stored damp. More than 82,000 verified reviews back a 4.4-star average.
