About Rug Doctor

Rug Doctor was founded in 1972 in Fresno, California, by professional carpet cleaner Roger Kent, who built the original machine to bring hot-water extraction, professional-grade cleaning within reach of everyday homeowners. The company relocated its corporate headquarters to Plano, Texas in 1998 and grew from a regional West Coast rental operation into an international brand, with rental machines now available at more than 35,000 grocery, drug, hardware, and home center locations across the US. Rug Doctor has since combined operations with BISSELL Rental, pairing two of the longest-running names in carpet cleaning rental under one company while keeping both brands' fleets in the field.

The Mighty Pro X3 platform carries a CRI Gold certification from the Carpet and Rug Institute, the carpet industry's independent testing body, for soil removal, water removal, and gentleness on carpet, and has separately earned the Good Housekeeping Seal from the Good Housekeeping Institute's testing lab. In our own hands-on testing for this roundup, what stood out on the Mighty Pro X3 Pet Pack was capacity built for real commercial use: a 2.5-gallon clean tank and 4-gallon dirty tank that cover an entire floor per fill, and a vibrating one-pass spray-scrub-extract design that skips the separate dry stroke smaller machines require.

Why we recognized Rug Doctor

The DIYRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products independently earn top-pick status in our hands-on category reviews. Rug Doctor earned it because its products came out on top in 1 DIYRated guide — evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, put to work on real jobs, and judged on merit.

Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 Pet Pack
runner-up in 7 Best Carpet Cleaners of 2026

Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 Pet Pack

Named our commercial-grade pick for landlords, multi-pet households, and rental property owners in the roundup. Its 2.5-gallon clean and 4-gallon dirty tanks cover an entire floor per fill, the CRI Gold-certified one-pass spray-scrub-extract design cleans faster than two-pass machines, and at 24 pounds it stays manageable to move between floors despite the commercial-grade capacity — the tradeoff we noted is that it needs frequent, heavy use to be worth the step up from a mid-range upright.

What earned Rug Doctor the recognition

  • CRI Gold certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute for soil removal, water removal, and gentleness on carpet — an independent industry testing program, not a marketing claim.
  • Also earned the Good Housekeeping Seal from the Good Housekeeping Institute's product testing lab.
  • Founded in 1972 in Fresno, California, and still manufacturing and marketing carpet cleaning equipment more than 50 years later, now operating alongside BISSELL Rental's combined fleet.
  • Commercial-grade engineering in a homeowner-purchasable machine: 2.5-gallon / 4-gallon tank capacity and a vibrating one-pass spray-scrub-extract design most competitors split across two passes.
  • A rental network spanning more than 35,000 US locations gives Rug Doctor a real-world testing base far larger than typical direct-to-consumer-only brands.
