About Outland Living
Outland Living was founded in 2010 in Surrey, British Columbia, by outdoor enthusiasts Willie Fisher and Frank Fan, operating under the parent company FMI Brands Inc. Their first product, the Ban Buster portable propane fire pit, was built to solve a specific problem: campers still wanted a fire during the wood-burning bans that shut down traditional campfires, and it was picked up by Canadian Tire in its debut year. That single portable pit grew into the Outland Firebowl line in 2012, which Costco began carrying across both Canada and the US, and the company now makes a full range of propane-powered outdoor living gear, including fire pits, fire tables, stoves, torches, and camping accessories.
Family Handyman's product testing team put the Outland Living Standard Fire Pit, the model we feature, through seven independent tests covering heating performance, wind resistance, durability, and ease of use, calling setup "ridiculously easy" and rating its wind resistance ahead of larger, pricier fire pits tested in the same lineup. The pit is CSA-approved, meaning it's certified safe to use during most regional wood-burning bans, the exact scenario the company was founded to address, and it ships with a pre-attached 10-foot hose, a bag of lava rock, and a built-in excess-flow safety valve rather than selling those as separate add-ons.

Outland Living products we rated highly
Outland Living 19-Inch Portable Propane Fire Pit
The most-reviewed fire pit in our entire roundup, with over 17,000 Amazon ratings, and CSA-approved for use during wood-burning bans when a traditional wood pit is illegal. It ships nearly pre-assembled with a carry kit and lava rock included, lights in seconds with no kindling or ash to manage, and produces zero smoke, making it the pick whenever burn-ban legality and no-mess convenience matter more than the crackle of a real wood fire.
