About Liberty Pumps
Liberty Pumps was founded in October 1965, when Fred Cook took over an existing pump line and set up operations in his hometown of Bergen, New York, where the company still manufactures today. What started as a basic sump pump maker grew, under Fred and later his nephew Charlie Cook, into a full line of sewage and effluent pump systems. The company has since transitioned to employee ownership and now runs more than 330 employees out of a 193,000-square-foot Bergen facility, expanded in 2023 and equipped with its own CNC machining, robotics, and powder-coating lines, shipping pumps to more than 30 countries a month rather than importing a catalog assembled elsewhere.
The current range covers everything from basic sump and utility pumps to sewage and effluent pumps, battery and water-powered backup systems, alarms, monitoring accessories, and basin and tank packages built for residential, commercial, and municipal jobs. Our own sump pump testing turned up the SumpJet SJ10, a water-powered backup that has also been put through independent testing by Consumer Reports in its water-powered backup category. It runs entirely off household water pressure with no battery to buy or maintain, backed by Liberty's standard two-year warranty, and it carries the deepest review base of any backup pump we looked at.

Why we recognized Liberty Pumps
The DIYRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Liberty Pumps earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, put to work on real jobs, and judged on merit.
Liberty Pumps products we rated highly
Liberty Pumps SumpJet Water-Powered Backup Sump Pump (SJ10)
Runs entirely on your home's water pressure instead of a battery, so it keeps working through multi-day outages that would drain any battery backup. The fully mechanical float valve has no electronics to fail, and it carries the deepest review base of any backup pump in our testing, with over 1,300 ratings at 4.6 stars. It needs strong, consistent municipal water pressure to perform, which makes it a better fit alongside a solid primary pump than as a standalone system for a well-water home.
